Mercyful Fate announced as headliners for Copenhell 2020

One of the many things that makes writing about music really enjoyable is you never know what to expect – some news just come at you out of nowhere. Yeah, you read that title right, motherfuckin’ Mercyful Fate are fucking back! The classic Danish heavy metal band led by the immensely charismatic King Diamond – who toured Europe just this year -, have just been announced as the headliners for Copenhell 2020 and you know the best part? There will be more shows to be confirmed, all throughout Europe, all during the Summer. Joining King will be the lineup of their last album to date, 9, which means Hank Sherman and Mike Wead on guitars and Bjarne T Holm on drums. For the bass, Mercyful Fate have invited Joey Vera (Armored Saint, Fates Warning) to fill in for Timi Hansen as according to a press release by the band, “he has a very unique style and sound playing with his fingers, much like that of Timi Hansen. This is very important, since the set list will only consist of songs from the very first “mini LP”, the “Melissa” album, and the “Don’t Break The Oath” album, plus some brand-new songs written specifically in that very same style”. So yeah, a Mercyful Fate tour and some new material? Sign us the fuck up! Oh, and keep your eyes peeled for further date announcements – it’s going to get loud.

Copenhell 2020 takes place in Refshaleøen, Copenhagen, on June 17th-20th. Ticket information will be available at a later date.
