Every edition of Hellfest is absolutely unique, but this year, it was extra special. We had been denied the joy of attending shows and events for over two years, and the metal community was strained and confined within four walls, without a way to blow-off steam. We did all we were able to, but nothing really compares to a sunset while a riff defies time and space, setting its own timeline of sound. When the mosh goes beyond and we have a sea of people surfing human waves in a totally frantic and ethereal way, something almost akin to a Renaissance painting. Nothing really compares to that feeling of warmth and communion you get from standing within an enthusiastic crowd. Somethings are truly irreplaceable and one-of-a-kind.
So, when it finally came time to once again reunite with our sisters and brothers, and celebrate the 15th Anniversary of Hellfest, we were delighted beyond belief. As we saw legions of fans entering through the mighty gates of Hellfest to once again dance around the fires and get absolutely crazy in the pits, we felt like it was a dream. But it was reality, and the celebration of music had once again been revived through crowds thirsty for moshing and potent infernal riffs. Blood, sweat and tears of joy, we saw it all and we captured it all. The photo galleries below call upon these sentiments that make music so special. It’s all about community, the support felt through it and how it magically twists the sonic landscape and turns something great into something perfect.
