Post-rock collective Pijn are a uniquely brilliant and brilliantly unique proposition. Based next to the UK’s infamous Strangeways Prison, the sextet have captivated audiences worldwide for nearly eight years, and their upcoming record, From Low Beams Of Hope, promises to elevate their artistry to new, breathtaking levels. With a release date set for late June, Pijn have shared the mesmerising first taste of the record, the single “On The Far Side Of Morning”, which you can listen to below this article. On this new single, Guitarist/Producer Joe Clayton comments, “‘On The Far Side Of Morning’ encapsulates so much of what I wanted to achieve with this record, a broad emotional range from solitude and fragility to triumph and purpose, removing limitations on instrumentation and personnel in pursuit of what, for us, was an uncompromising crescendo.”
From Low Beams Of Hope represents Pijn’s most avant-garde creation yet, delving into realms of introspection beyond their prior discography. An enchanting opus spanning four tracks and clocking in at just over forty-five minutes, this new record departs from conventional songwriting, embracing a cohesive thematic approach, immersing listeners in a visceral whirlwind of emotions where positivity intertwines with profound melancholy. Notably, this release signifies a significant milestone as the band’s inaugural record under their independent label, Floodlit Recordings, showcasing a seamless journey from inception through recording, mixing, mastering, and eventual release. On the record, Joe Clayton adds, “From Low Beams of Hope is an album with more of an abstract feel than our previous records. Where Floodlit and Loss were a very focused reaction to grief, From Low Beams Of Hope came from an attempt to get perspective on the passage of life, thematically and sonically embracing our own experiences in an attempt to create something that can feel at once uplifting and exciting, vulnerable and reflective, yet was made in fragmented and difficult surroundings.”
From Low Beams Of Hope will be released on June 28th via Floodlit Recordings. Pre-orders are now avaiable here.
