Few in the field of explorative ambient music have remained as questing and unclassifiable as Canadian composer Tim Hecker. Across his 15-year career he has moved through shades of reflective electronic noise, experiential sound design, and modern composition with a deft and distinguished touch. Today, Hecker announces a brand-new record, Shards, a collection of pieces originally written for various film and TV soundtracks the composer has scored over the last half decade. These compositions were originally written for scoring projects including Infinity Pool, The North Water, Luzifer, and La Tour. Below this article you can listen to the record’s first advance, “Sunset Key Melt”.
Shards will be released on February 21st via Kranky. Pre-orders are now available here.
