Last month, a very special event took place at LAV, in Lisbon – the return to Portugal by the British masters of psychedelic doom metal Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats. It had been ten years since the band led by the eponymous master of ceremonies Uncle Acid stepped foot in the country, where they gave an extraordinary performance at SonicBlast. This time around, the band brought their hypnotic riffs, unsettling melodies and an aesthetic deeply rooted in the occult imagery of the 70s to Lisbon, performing songs from their entire discography, including classics such as “Mt. Abraxas”, “Death’s Door”, “Crystal Spiders” and “I’ll Cut You Down”, as well as more recent material, like “Bedouin” and “Only Death Is Your Handcuff”. Opening this singular night as very special guests were the progressive psych rockers Dirty Sound Magnet and Porto’s own heavy psych outfit Madmess, each giving their all in two equally beautiful performances. More nights like this are in order.
