Liquid Dreams Of Pleasure: Desire live at Capitólio, Lisbon

November brought with it the coldness of the Fall, but that was not the only thing – there was also love, plenty of love. Between liquid wet dreams of sex dungeons, pleasuredomes, bondage and sensuality, there is a duo that deals with all things delightful and gratifying, and that is of course, the Montreal-based duo of Megan Louise and Johnny Jewel. Together they make up Desire, a project that enchants its audience with the lovely sounds of synth-pop mixed with Italo disco and new wave. It can also be described as dream pop for the broken-hearted, but if you’ve ever seen the duo perform live, that is definitely not the idea you get. And that brings us back to November, as Desire performed at the Capitólio, in Lisbon, to an audience eager for that feeling of seduction and loving enthrallment; a performance that met and exceeded all expectations.

Focused on their three records to date – the eponymous, Desire, their sophomore, II, and the latest so far, Escape -, Desire also gave us a taste of their upcoming record, Games People Play, with “Drama Queen”, and performed a cover version of “Bizarre Love Triangle” by New Order. Also of note was their performance of “Saturday”, a beatiful song that also appears in the David Lynch-directed Twin Peaks: The Return. A wonderful evening that also counted with great performances by both Orion and Love Object.
