Two weeks ago, a somber shadow was cast upon the wondrous city of Porto. Hailing from the fabled land of silver, also known as Argentina, the mighty stoner/doom metal giants Mephistofeles made their long-awaited debut in Portugal in a perfect manner. Armed with four powerful full-length records, the trio rained down heavy riffage that made every single member of the audience bang their heads and practice some air guitars. Opening this singular night were two highly-regarded names of the Portuguese underground scene: the doom metal maestros Idle Hand and the transgressive rock outfit Spin The Skull, both delivering potent performances that stoked the fire within the audience’s hearts.
